FOCAL POINT: Goal Setting
The goal is to be more Christlike,
not to achieve more in the world.
I used to believe that my worth was tied to how much I could achieve.
I was always in a rush chasing milestones, checking all of my goals, measuring my value by productivity and performance. The more I accomplished, the more validated I felt, it was dopamine, and to be honest, it's addicting—the praises and applause. But when I fell short, I felt like I was falling behind, not just in life, but in who I was becoming. I constantly compare myself with other people, if I fail—I fail hard, and it's difficult to recover because of my perfectionism before.
But God gently shifted my perspective.
We live in a world that measures worth by achievements.
Titles earned. Goals checked. Milestones posted online.
But God is far more concerned with who you are becoming than what you are accomplishing.
You can be productive and still be impatient.
Successful and still unkind.
Busy for the kingdom, yet no quiet time with the King.
Being Christlike is best seen in how you respond in quiet, unseen moments, when you choose humility over pride, obedience over recognition, love over a rush of feelings.
God is not impressed by how much you do if it costs you your soul. He is shaping your heart, your character, and your intimacy before Him.
Because at the end of it all, He won’t ask how much you achieved. He will ask how well you loved. How faithfully you obeyed. How deeply you trusted Him.
It’s okay to set and achieve goals, but don’t mistake or trade productivity and worldly achievement, with becoming more Christlike and growing in intimacy with God.
Choose Christlikeness over worldly accomplishments.

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. Proverbs 23:4-5
My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish. Psalm 49
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

GOAL SETTING
Goal setting is deciding what God wants you to achieve. As a general guideline, make “SMART” goals:
S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Achievable (Don’t limit yourself to what YOU think is possible; consider what GOD can do!)
R = Relevant (what matters most)
T = Time-bound
QUESTIONS
Are your goals Christ-centered, or world-centered?
Are you laboring for the approval and praise of man, or for the glory and praise of God?
Do your words and actions reflect a desire to please God, or man?
How can you best follow what’s written in scripture while pursuing your goals?
